Nothing is Too Little… is a collection of songs that I wrote during my college years. Like many young songwriters, I drew heavily from personal experience--it’s really a collection of songs to do with love. After winning recording time in an annual Battle of the Bands, I scheduled an ensemble of some of my favorite players from the Iowa City music scene to record with John Svec of Minstrel Studios.

Our noon-to-midnight recording session earned the namesake. With brief rehearsal, chord progressions on our cheat-sheets, and a box full of tasty snacks, we showed up late and got to work.

The necessary isolation for recording purposes was sobering and strangely new, and certainly a far cry from making music on tiny stages, under the influence of a couple IPA’s. Using this as licence to experiment, we tracked all of the instruments at once, which allowed us to capture several versions of the songs, each with its own groove and unique character. After subsequent overdubbing of some guitar, vocals, keys, and percussion, I am very proud to share this music with you!

"As Above, So Below" is a love story, a toast, a farewell. Its creation has left me ever grateful to be an Iowan, to have been born into a community of such fine music makers. The story of our labor belongs to you now. May it serve you well and cause you to wonder each time you turn it over.

River's new EP displays his continued growth as a songwriter as he ventures further into the vein of folk-pop music. Sweet like honey, the sparse arrangements of River's unique style on violin, mandolin, and guitar are a fine example of when less is more. With lyrics drenched in clever rhymes and conscious messages, River's vocal performance demonstrates his energetic personality and wide tonal range. Iowa Grown Folk-Pop is the product of several months spent in the city of New Orleans and is River's first foray into self-recording. Enjoy!
